Stevenson University
Stevenson University was founded in 1947 in Stevenson, Maryland. In 2004, the university moved to its current location 6 miles away, in Owings Mills, and it seems like it's been growing ever since. There are currently about 2700 undergraduates here, but Stevenson also has a robust online degree program as well as master's and doctoral programs. The entrance to the campus almost looks like a strip mall, but as you get further in, there are plenty of green spaces with a lot of modern, functional brick buildings. Stevenson is actually comprised of 3 campuses with a shuttle system and footpath connecting them. The north campus is the academic hub, the east campus is where the athletic facilities are, and the south campus, the original campus since relocating and the biggest of the three, is where the residence and dining halls are located, as well as some additional academic buildings.
There's a brand new library that opened less than a year ago, and they're currently building a new, 38,000 square foot performing arts center with 2 theaters. Also, Stevenson is ranked #1 in Maryland and $8 in the US for "Best Dorms" by Niche.
Stevenson calls themselves a small, private university with a distinct career focus. 100% of majors require some career preparation: an internship, research, or a capstone project. The focus is not on the liberal arts, although Psychology is a popular major. Other majors include Nursing, Medical Laboratory Science, Healthcare Management, Graphic Design, Fashion Design, Fashion Merchandising, Counseling and Human Services, and Communication Studies. While there are Criminal Justice as well as Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics majors, there's also a very robust master's program (and a 4+1 opportunity) in forensics, with degrees in Forensic Accounting, Forensic Investigation, Forensic Science, Forensic Studies, and Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics.
Stevenson has the northernmost Division 3 beach volleyball team; both the men's and women's teams won a national championship in the last two years. 30% of the students are from out of state, and most of them are athletes. They also have a very successful mock trial team, and even offer a mock trial scholarship. Merit scholarships in general run from $10K to $20K.
Applying is easy: there's no application fee, tests and letters of recommendation are both optional, and applications are read on a rolling basis; students receive a decision in 2-3 weeks.
