Southern New Hampshire University

I was excited to visit Southern New Hampshire University– so well known for its online degrees, but not so well known for its residential campus. Situated on 300 acres in Hooksett, New Hampshire, SNHU’s campus is beautiful, well-landscaped, and full of modern buildings and gorgeous facilities. I’m guessing that their robust online programming is helping to fund the residential campus – but this is purely conjecture.

SNHU leans into career-focused majors and hires a lot of adjunct faculty with industry experience. The School of Business offers majors in all the usual disciplines plus Aviation Management, Business Analytics, Entrepreneurship, Management Information Systems, Sport Management, Hospitality Business, Operations and Project Management, and Professional Sales. The School of Engineering, Technology, and Aeronautics offers several engineering majors, some of which are ABET accredited as well as Construction Management, Cybersecurity, and Information Technologies. The School of Arts, Sciences, and Education, while offering a small number of traditional liberal arts degrees, has far more pre-professional programs such as Communication, Game and Simulation Programming, Game Art & Interactive Design, Graphic Design & Media Arts. The Justice Studies and Law, Politics & Societies majors have some really interesting tracks, such as Local Livable Communities, Global Affairs, American Politics, Terrorism & Homeland Security, and Law & Legal Process, and they’re launching a new major in Biomedical Science.

SNHU offers an authentic residential experience: of the 2300 undergraduates studying here, two-thirds live on campus. And while campus housing isn’t officially guaranteed, if a student deposits by May 1, they’re not turned away.

For admission, the university is looking for students with a GPA of 2.5 or higher and math through Algebra 2 – Precalculus is a plus. There is no foreign language requirement. With an all-in price of $33-35K, SNHU also offers some merit scholarships: $4K for a GPA of 3.5 or above, $3K for engineering, and $3K for housing.  Clearly, Southern New Hampshire University is a great value for students looking for real-world career preparation.
